Had another early morning, as we wanted to make the most of our one day in Edmonton. We decided we'd walk across the river to down town to get to the Legislature building and the Gallery of Alberta. The archictect of the Legislature building was lovely - but we didn't and still don't know what the buildings used for! Was hoping there'd be plaques outside - but there wasn't.
We then headed to the Gallery which I was really excited about, but was a mission and a half to find it! The we had was useless and didn't have half the street names listed and so we had to resort to ask people. Walking through the streets we both felt really uneasy as there were a few dodgy characters about - head down and keep walking was my motto for the day!
I had seen the gallery in photos and thought that the exterior would wow me, but it was blended so well in with the surroundnig buildings that it wasn't that noticable! Really pleased that we had a day in the gallery - it was well worth visiting! Piranesi's linear prints were amazing and the photographer Edward Burtynsky's work both shocked and amazed me - definately the highlight for me!
We decided against seeing Edmonton Mall, which we were told had an amusement park, swimming pool etc within the mall, as A) it seemed quite far out from the city and B) We didn't want to be out in the city any longer than we really had to.
Didn't like Edmonton at all and wouldn't recommend anyone going either. Oh also, the fact that you had to ask for the kitchen knives that were keep behind the front desk of the hostel says it all really!!!
Can't wait to move on!
