Friday 31/08/12 Tourist Day
Today was brilliant! we woke up and caught the tram to Pier 33 it was a bit of a s*** journey, slow had to get off the squished onto another so we got off early and walked. We walked from pier 33 to 39 and saw the sea lions they smelt pretty bad but was funny watching them fight and bark at one another! The sun came out and we decided on a Rocket Boat ride, which was a speedboat that took us under the bay bridge and to the baseball stadium (ATT), did a couple of skids to get us wet and all to a rock n roll sound track!
From pier 39 we walked to Fishermans Wharf and got some fish and chips and sat near the submarines eating as fast as possible while trying to scare away seagulls not the most fun experience.
We walked along the seafront and could see The Golden Gate Bridge. My absolute lack of distance perception suggested we walk there. Neil said it would take a while, I said we had the day. 6 miles later and many a photo we made it to the bridge. Totally worth the walk. Loved it.
We got the bus back to Lombard Street and from there walked to North Beach. We had a coffee in a bar and I checked my Facebook. My cousin was in San Francisco and ready to meet. He agreed to meet us in North Beach not realising it was 10 long blocks uphill from where he parked. I started talking to an old guy who had insulted Europeans and the British, I asked him what was was wrong with being a Brit and we got talking. He told me San fran was the best city in the world and after the walk I had done today I could of agreed as it was lovely. He bought us our drinks and we said goodbye when Red arrived. We hadn't seen each other in 8 years and he had been living in US for 7. I didn't realise he lived in Stocton an hour half away I felt terrible. Bless him for coming. We caught up over Italian, which we thought apt as we were in the Italian District and Red paid. I had a seafood risotto which was yummy.
We walked down North Beach towards Union Square where Red had parked and we were staying. We had a coffee and cake which he allowed me to pay for. We said our goodbyes and arranged to see each other Tuesday. So good to catch up and he is a lovely guy.
