J: Off we set on the road again, we headed to Kurranda Market, which are the "original" markets of Australia. They had some interesting stuff including genuine kangaroo G-string bikinis and kangaroo scrotum purses…. I kind of wanted one! But I did get to try the new Guinness World Records hottest chilli in the world which was the Carolina Reaper at 1.6 million on the scoville scale. It had a good kick and I enjoyed it, but the girls wouldn't go near it. We next arrived back at Cairns, and had a walk around the indoor market and found our mascot for the journey, a cuddly kangaroo flying the Aussie flag that we named kev-the-roo. We were now all hungry so stopped for a BBQ on the esplanade as it seemed like the right thing to do….. and what else would be appropriate to have apart from Surf and Turf! Lovely rare steak with proper Aussie "prawns" that are simply huge. It smelt so tasty that someone (of course she was Chinese) came and took a photo while I was cooking.
S: Now technically sleeping on the side on the road is illegal and as Cairns is quite built up, and with a very noticeable campervan we decided to start driving to our next destination. So we put on some tunes and James is dance-driving away and suddenly the whole van lights up …. Mr Keeler has been caught speeding lol!! The irony is he was the only one sticking to the speed limits generally and had been telling us girls off for going too fast. We decided James could no longer comment on anyone else's driving lol. We eventually found a sort of truck stop with some toilets, and set up camp for the night. Considering it was next to a main road, we didn't sleep that bad, until Mr. K woke us up at 6am. We drove straight to Babina Boulders; these are made of granite and where shaped by the water running over them for many years. There was a swimming hole there as well, which wasn't really as cold as we thought it would be. The area also has a significant background for the local aboriginal people, where they believe the spirit is still in the water.
