Sad to leave our lovely little "Family Camp" and Rishiri Island today. Packed up and down at the ferry terminal, queued up for a ticket by 8.10am only to be told that they don't start selling them until 8.30. Shane laughing at my travel anxiety that had us waiting long before required, yet again!
The crossing from Rishiri to Rebun is only 45 minutes but it was enough for me to start feeling nauseous and that hung around for an hour or so after getting off the boat.
Our goal was the camp at the lake at the top of the island (approx 20kms) but we did our usual... stop for the toilet, stop after 5 minutes because there was a playground, stop 10 minutes later for the Seicomart to get groceries and morning tea, stop a few more kms up the road because we saw a walk to the top of a hill (we walked 2km in but it was windy and fogged in plus Elsie only handles shorter walks without the proper backpack), then we went the long way around the tip of the island and stopped because we saw seals sunbathing.
The weather here is not as good as the east side of Rishiri as the highest point is only around 500metres so it doesn't get enough shelter. At times the wind was pushing us along without pedalling at 25km an hour. When we rounded the point we could barely move forward because the wind was so fierce. Still it is relatively warm and not unpleasant. When we finally did get to the lake camp we set up tent in the most sheltered spot we could (the cabins were all booked!) but helped out a couple of other campers, one struggling to put his tent up alone, the other with a broken pole which Shane mended.
Went for a wee stroll beside the lake and cooked up some dinner. Had a great shower here at camp and about to have a wee Sake toast to Bill (one year today since he passed).
