Today, we went to Playa el Tunco in La Libertad with Adri and Meli. This is a very special place for surfers with lovely waves. Some actually quite scary...! Here we saw a lot of chellos with their surfboards. We ate a lovely seafood paella right on the beach whislt watching the match FC Barcelona vs Madrid. Over the last few days, a lot of things have happened. First went to a Pinata for a birthday party. Ate lots of nice different types of food all made from corn. Adri took me to Monsenor Romero museum in the local university. I learnt a lot more about this key person from El Salvador. We then went down town to the Palacio Nacional which we visited. Some beautiful gardens and colonial buildings. We walked along the busy streets of the capital with lots of side shop...

At 10 a.m we left the hotel with our guide, a former guerillero. We first took a pick up ride to a crossroad. This was quite an experience, holding on at the back of a pick up full of people...! At the crossroads we started our walk to El Mozote, a very famous site where the whole village was massacred and only one person survived this genocide. 800 people were killed of which 420 children. Terrible part of history...! Our guide was very interesting and we walked...

We slept alright with the sound of traditional music all night long. Had a quick bite of pan dulce before catching a bus to Santiago, then change at El Triunfo and waited for a while in San Miguel before catching our bus to Perquin. The journey lasted about 5 hours in total. It was very hot and cramped but well it was a great experience to live, in the bus with gente local de el salvador. In buses here, at every stop, people are coming in offering food and drinks...

We decided not to go to Guatemala in the end as it seems pretty dangerous at the moment. Instead, we decided to book a microbus to go to Alegria, a nice pueblo east of San Salvador. We went there and stopped at Berlin on the way where we ate pupusas for breakfast. We visited the church and village square.
