At 10 a.m we left the hotel with our guide, a former guerillero. We first took a pick up ride to a crossroad. This was quite an experience, holding on at the back of a pick up full of people...! At the crossroads we started our walk to El Mozote, a very famous site where the whole village was massacred and only one person survived this genocide. 800 people were killed of which 420 children. Terrible part of history...! Our guide was very interesting and we walked for three hours and he never stopped talking. When we arrived in El Mozote, we saw the memorial monument erected for their remembrance. We then started walking back and it started pouring down, not just a drizzle but a real soaking and we were drenched. We were lucky enough to see a pick up stop and give us a ride back to the crossroad and we finished are journey hanging at the back of a really packed pick up.
