Day 201
Arrived in Bangkok! And it is not at ALL like I remember it. Not a ping pong ball in sight (yet). Beautiful wide tree-lined clean streets, pavement cafes, organised traffic - it looks like Paris. There is no litter on the streets and some of the motorcyclists even wear helmets! And they don't cram 6 people on each time. Its also hot - very hot - and although that was lovely to get off the plane into a blast of heat, the novelty wore off quickly. I immediately miss Kathmandu with its more normal weather - cold in the morning, warm in the day, cold at sunset, freezing at night. Like a nice Scottish summer. This is just hairdryer hot, the whole time. High humidity. No difference between day and night. Fern exclaimed 'Bangkok is so organised!. And it has skyscrapers, real beautiful ones lit up against the night in neon purple with lasers and strobes and all kinds of bonkers details. It looks amazing. More like New York than New Delhi. I've missed a skyscraper - the Indian and Nepali landscapes are only about four feet tall. I haven't seen a proper tall building for 6 months. Managed to apply the nit treatment, hopefully for the final time and Clover's green and yellow stye has now burst, leaving her with a nice swollen, black eye.
Arrived at our lovely hotel (trip advisor's number 1!) and I promptly vomited in the sink - for no apparent reason. Can't really breathe either. Fern lay sobbing for 2 hours that she couldn't sleep in the heat and has two large bites on her head from an unidentified object (Clover?). Clover shouted that she hated us all and was moving out in the morning. Rufus couldn't sleep and lay all night obsessing over iTunes. It must be the excitement of being in a new city.
Not much to say yet but we are all doing ok. Going to collect Gan Gan at the airport at 4pm and whisking her off somewhere nice. Must remember to bring a banana and some Dairy Milk - she'll crack up on the rickety public bus for 4 hours.
