Yesterday Ron and I hired a dive guide, Bruce, and headed out to the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). A cyclone passed through here on Thursday so the conditions weren't going to be ideal but we had to go. I mean who comes all this way and doesn't dive the reef? BTW, raise your hand if you know what a cyclone is...how about a Palatapus....Iron ore? If you did, then good for you because the Honeys had no idea what either three were. Ron's says he knew what iron ire was but I'm calling bulls*** on that one. Back to the story, Bruce suggested that I purchase Travecalm from the chemist as it works at preventing sea sickness 90% of the time. I am happy to report that I did not throw up on the rough 90 minute ride out to the reef. Apparently, some others on our boat weren't provided with the same advice. I'll spare you the details. Bruce was very concerned about taking Ron and I down. He didn't say so but i could tell by the look on his face. I mean here are two Americans saying that they've been on about 50 total dives all over the world yet have no dive log book nor could answer any of the general safety questions. Our first dive was a success; by that i mean no one got lost nor shot to the surface. Once we descended to the bottom it all came back to us. After our 40 minute dive we got back on the boat and i say to Bruce, "You were worried weren't you Bruce?! I could tell." Yep, i just had to throw it out there, I am my mothers daughter afterall. Ron was mortified..."Did you need to ask him that babe?" Yep, sure did! The visibility wasn't that great but it felt good to be in the water again. On the three dives, the coolest stuff we saw were giant clams, two squid mating (super cool), anemone fish, lion fish, angel fish, huge groupers, wrasse and a school of large barracuda. Now this is going to sound terrible but the diving was just meh. With the exception of the giant clams, we could've seen the same marine life in Hawaii. I expected more from the GBR. I guess we're just spoiled having dove in Grand Cayman, Belize, Barbados, Gallapogos and Hawaii. We're glad we went but were not going back again today! We met up with the Director team for pre-dinner drinks then headed out to Nautalis Restaurant for a group dinner. Ummm, I should've taken notice to the fact that the first beer went down like a glass of ice cold water. Next time I turn to my husband and say, "OMG this tastes so good!" I should realize that I need to watch my consumption. Live and learn. Dinner was fabulous and super fun. Trip Advisor has it ranked #7 but I'm calling bulls*** on that as well. No way Salsa Bar and Grill is 1 and this is 7. That's like saying Outback Steakhouse is better than Morton's. I'm not sure if it's me or the waiters here in Australia but the same thing happened to me at Nautilus that happened at Longrain; the waiter just stopped asking if I wanted more wine and kept pouring it. My glass was never empty. Wait, I am married to a man like that, as Sash would call him "pusher Ron". Leisurely day today, slept off the alcohol, ate breakfast, slept some more, went for a run and am now blogging by our private pool drinking a beer. And NO I didn't punish myself and run on 4 mile beach. I decided to run around the windless golf course. We're hoping to see the thousands of bats that fly out from the trees surrounding the course tonight then a nice dinner at Bucci. It's ranked 14 by Trip Advisor so it should be delicious. More tomorrow. Oh wait, i am happy to report that the Australians are NOT like the French, they keep you well hydrated. The first thing the waitstaff asks when you sit down is what type of water you would like to drink (think blog from last year).

Sasha If I were the dive guide I'd be a little worried too with you two. Showing up unprepared and reeking of alcohol I'm sure. Glad you didn't get lost or get the bends idiot. And I can't believe the diving off the GBR was just meh. You better check yourself girl.
Sasha Oh, and another thing...why no photos? What's a blog without photos? Just a bunch of writing. C'mon, let me see something.
