So we arrived in Christchurch and have to say we are shocked how little is here for a city, they are basically rebuilding the city due to the earthquake which happened here feb 2011.
There seems to be so much more poverty here than anywhere else we have visited in NZ. On arrival we followed signs for the city centre and we never seemed to find it as there is nothing here other than a small mall and building sites, there are some restaurants but nothing seems to be open. We were a bit stuck for anything to do so we checked into our room and just organised ourselves for our onward travels.
The next day we went to the Orana wildlife park here in Christchurch which was pretty good, the lions there were most impressive as they were huge. They let tourists into a cage on the back of a truck what gets taken through the lion enclosure which was good to watch. Unfortunately they only let 20 people in per day to feed them so we missed the opportunity to get in the cage, but was good to watch anyway.
After the zoo we headed back to the room to organise our bags ready for our departure, as we have had the privilege of the car now we have to try and ram everything into our back packs. We have decided to send some stuff home as its too much so we will find a post office and send it, fingers crossed it gets there.
We advertised all our camping equipment for sale but had no luck with that so we found a homeless man and give it all to him. Not sure what he's going to do carrying it all as we sort of overloaded him with gear lol. But sure he will make good use of it.
Anyway after 33days, 6148 km of driving and a wallet a lot lighter we are leaving NZ. We have had a amazing time here, done and seen some amazing things. NZ is a stunning country the scenery is some of the nicest we have seen. Unfortunately we only had a month here and tried to see as much as we possibly could but there is so much more, we have met some lovely people on our travels but everyone is on the move so didn't really get time to get to know anyone in more depth.
Moving on this is just the start for us and can't wait to see all the other countries we have to explore.
Next stop kuala lumpa Malaysia for 2nights then off two the phillipines for 2months or until we get bored, on that note I had a route planned for the phillipines but some how booked our first flight to the island we should be going 3rd in the phillipines, which is now going to cost more going back on ourselves (doughnut) but anyway shouldn't be to much hassle, we'll see!!
