Sunday was my last day in the Highlands and I moved all my stuff to the lounge area before visiting the town for the last time. Feeling as though I couldn't leave without having tea and scones I settled in a café in town to indulge. I explored some of the souvenir shops before grabbing an early lunch at a highly recommended Tandoori restaurant. Full of naan I climbed the steps back to Father's and managed to get a lift with my bags down to the tourist office where my bus would leave back to KL.
Luckily we had a good driver who took the twisty roads slowly and I slept most of the journey arriving back at the bus station at 5.30 pm. Watching the traffic leaving the station I thought better of a taxi and dragged my poor bag the couple of km to the hostel. I arrived just as the wheel were about the give in and was kindly greeted by the owner, Suzy.
I was told I had been given a room in the new hostel being opened across the street by the same owners but unfortunately it wouldn't be ready for me until 9. I was given a towel and the wifi password to keep me out of trouble and headed out for dinner after a cool shower.
I had an amble down Jalan Alor which sells a variety of Chinese foods out of 'mamak' stalls and outdoor restaurants. I found a small Chinese (what a surprise) foodery and haggled for their cheapest dish. I ended up with a noodle and beansprout dish topped with chicken breast. It was nice (until I found the prawns which I left!) and I got a free drink and watermelon all for 6RM (about £1.25).
By the time I returned my room was ready and I moved my bag across the road to a brand new, as in still being painted, hostel. The room was nice with a double bed, fridge, window (luxury) and air con, if not a bit small. I had my own wet-room with toilet and shower just down the hall, and was given a locker key for valuables as the room's key card system was not yet operational.
All in all though I got a good nights sleep ready for an early start on Monday morning.
