Katie’s Aimless Wanderings
A welcome change of diet today - more chicken but this time with flies. Kaye had a bowl of chickens feet which looked like babies hands. The chilli sauce is always scrummy though and disguises undercooked meat and the millions of flies you ingest at the same time. Think of the weight I'll lose! No Hairy Dieters for ME when I get back.
We have been travelling with a long UN convoy. We asked Ali where they were going and the answer was 'west'. But we are going west we said and there was a nervous cackle from the back and a 'yes it is complicated' which everything seems to be . Ali has been praying on and off all day which I haven't noticed before.........ever positive, I think it's great they are going the same way as us! No being rebelnapped here !
On another positive note, there are lots of swallows here all winging their way back to the UK hooray!!
We are having to change some plans and go on different roads. Kaye and Marissa are down with colds but stocked up with all sorts of remedies (for foot rot probably).
We are now in Man close to Liberia, which is surrounded by 18 mountains (hills really) and very pretty. Much lusher jungle and bamboo everywhere. The hotel is very run down and no wifi so this will be late. It is one huge room which was obviously once used for events but is now just broken chairs and more red dust. We sit in a tiny corner near the television and bat the mozzies away. The hotel owner has just ran down to the market to get food for tonight; carrots for grating, tinned sweet corn and avocado. We strolled around by a river with a fish market going on and pirogues coming from Mali with fish and banana's. Tomorrow we will hopefully see some dances and get out into the villages a bit. It looks like a gin and Tesco mixed nut night.
