Today we arrived in Christchurch. The flight felt quite short and I actually arrived in New Zealand at the same time that Shannon got home!

We found our bags fairly quickly and then caught a taxi to our accommodation which was decent enough and had free wifi which was unexpected.

We decided to head into the city to find a pub. Unfortunately because of the earthquake in Christchurch in 2011 a lot of the city in still in disrepair. It was quite sad. Even most of the shops that looked okay were vacant and not operating. Christchurch definitely did not sound like the city described in my old copy of lonely planet.

We eventually found a pizza place that we bought some takeaway pizza from and headed back to our hotel. We were back pretty early, around 5:30pm, and just sat around eating pizza and watching movies all night. Fortunately we were tired anyway. But it was sad to see Christchurch as such a sad, empty place.

Doesn't really feel like I'm in a different country quite yet.
