Today we left Japan and flew to China. Firstly we packed up our things and checked out of the hostel. We pulled our bags up to the station and had a bakery breakfast before hopping onto the Shinkansen to Fukuoka. We had to fly out of Fukuoka because we had purchased our flights to Shanghai before finding accommodation and then we couldn't find a single place to stay in Fukuoka. Hence our stay in Hiroshima. In the end though I'm glad we got to spend more time in Hiroshima.
When we got to Fukuoka our plan was to find some lockers and put our bags away then walk around the town for a while. It took us so long to find an empty locker. We walked all around the station and then even went to the top floors of a department store and they were all taken. Sunday's in Japan at train stations are obviously very busy because this is exactly what happened to us in Nagoya.
We eventually found a guy emptying one out and we jumped on it. But we could only fit Shannon's bag in there and our carry on bags. So we packed that in there and then walked around the shops with my bag. It was a little bit annoying but okay.
We walked around for a bit and then went out into the courtyard near the station where we had a small lunch of curry and rice. There was no meat in it but there were caraway seeds in the rice which were pretty tasty.
After lunch we got Shannon's bag and then took the subway and a shuttle bus to get to the international airport. We couldn't check in right away and had to wait an hour. We got some photos done in a photo booth while we waited.
After we checked our luggage in we went through customs and had a sandwich and a tea whilst waiting at the gate. Before long it was time to board the plane to Shanghai.
The plane ride was only an hour and a half and we got a massive meal which we weren't expecting. When we arrived in Shanghai we went through the necessary airport processes and then made our way to the Maglev train. From here we went one stop and then changed to the metro line and went about 20mins.
We arrived at our station and made our way about 15mins in the rain to find the hostel. It was very easy to find and we checked in without any issues. We missed a dumpling cooking party that was on tonight and only run on Sunday's so we'll never get a chance. But apart from that, the room is a decent size with our own private bathroom (with glass walls so we can still see each other!).
It was 9:30pm by the time we got into the room so we quickly ducked down the road to pick up some snacks for dinner. We are having cup noodles in our room and then we'll be calling it a night.
I'm looking forward to exploring Shanghai tomorrow although I am nervous about finding food to eat. I like the look of the city so far from what I have seen and the people are a lot louder than the Japanese which is actually quite nice.
