Today was our final full day in Hangzhou and I suppose China. We decided we'd just take it easy and so didn't make any plans as such.
We were out the door by 10am and made our way by foot down to the Westlake area where we had seen a bakery the day before. After 15mins we made it to the bakery and selected our treats. I had a delicious coconut bun and the coffee we had was pretty good as well. We relaxed in the bakery finishing off our coffees and headed out for a walk once we were done.
We walked about the lake and sat down on a bench for a while to people watch. There were many people out today, being Sunday and all so we had a good time watching people. We saw one group of people all with cameras with super long lenses trying to get photos of birds diving for fish. We also saw two big groups of people partner dancing to music which was pretty cool. There were also people practicing their calligraphy on the pavement with water and giant brushes and also people singing just to entertain people. There was also a guy doing interpretative dancing who was drawing quite the crowd.
After making our way a far way around the lake we walked towards a shopping centre to find a toilet and peruse the shops. We didn't find much to buy as we are both saving our spending for Hong Kong.
We weren't hungry for lunch yet so we went back out to the lake and sat on a bench for a while until we were too cold to sit still any longer. Afterwards we made our way back towards the hostel and stopped at the same shopping centre we had been to last night to have some lunch.
In the basement level we found a place that did Japanese style food and Shannon had some ramen and I had some minced beef with rice dish. We both thought it was fairly tasty. After that we headed back to the hostel.
We had a pot of tea each in the common room where they even gave us a thermos of hot water to top up. I read for a while whilst Shannon made some calls back home and looked on the Internet.
Around 6pm we went out onto the street to find a quick dinner. I had some street foods which included some potato pastry fried flat bread and also some toffee crab apples on a skewer. Both were okay but the toffee apples were very sweet and quite sickening. Shannon had some maccas and a milk tea type drink that had tapioca pearls, red beans and matcha in it that was very tasty.
Tomorrow night we fly to Hong Kong which we are both excited about. China has been okay but there are a few things we don't really like about it such as the dirty public toilets and also difficulty in finding food and such. I hope Hong Kong is a bit more English friendly but we'll see how it goes. We don't fly out until the evening so we might try and go up to another temple tomorrow before we go to the airport.
