Hello everyone!
We have finally been able to get on a computer at last. The computers in our hotel in Washington D.C didn't work:( even if they did it was very expensive! We couldn't find any anywhere else either! We are now in Wilmington North Carolina but before I tell you about that I will tell you about Washington.
We arrived by Greyhound and to our surprise the bus was really nice and it was a pleasant way to travel. We arrived at our hotel and got put in a tiny tiny room. The problem was that it didn't have aircon when it said it would! It was pretty hot and due to get much hotter so we asked him if we cuold change room. He said that we did have an air conditioner when we didn't but told us that we couldn't change room as they were all booked up but to call him if we got too hot:S So we stayed the night in that room and then called in the morning. The maintenance man came up and told us that we did indeed not have an air conditioner and arranged for us to move to another room. So basically everything the guy had said the night before was a lie. So we got the keys to our new room and started to pack our bags back up. As we were doing this the maid burst in and her first words were "Get out!" We told her we couldn't move till we had packed up as we had been here a night so our cases were unpakced. We the got a phone call from the Manager saying it was too late to move. We told him otherwise and went up to our room. We have never been spoken to so rudley in our life! This all happened in the space of about 10 minutes. The reason for all of this was because the maids shift was over so the maid wasn't happy she had to do overtime! We got a better bigger room in the end though which is all that mattered:)
Whilst we were in Washington we went to see the White House which we did on out 2nd day i think. It looked smaller than we imagined but pretty cool! After we saw the White House we went to walk towards the Washington Monument but decided to turn back as it was very hot. As we went back towards the White House we saw about 20 police cars and bikes so we went over. The police cars and bikes were followed by two limos and SUVs and in the SUV was Obama!! We didn't get a great view of him but someone across the street screamed and shouted that he waved at her. He was followed by more cars and ambulances and the whole thing was really cool! We were so lucky to have even seen him as the walkway outside the White House had been barricaded off and it was just becuase we were wandering on the other side across the park that we were even allowed there. In total there was under 10 people standing there.
The next day we saw the Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. They were all very impressive but very far away from each other. We walked in total for about 4 hours and were knackered by the time we got back! We really enjoyed the day though and it was lovely weather.
In the following 2 days after we saw the National American History Museum and the Air and Space museum which were both really good. We also saw the Capitol building which is huge!
Then it was time to get back on a greyhound bus to Wilmington! We had to get up at 4 in the morning and take 3 different buses to get here:( It wa sa very long day and a very different experience from our last one! There were some very dodgy characters on the buses but everyone kept to themselves! As we were finally pulling into Wilmington our bus carashed intoa car as it was turning a corner. The back end of the bus hit the front of a car and we had to stay for ages and ages waiting for the police to come before we could get our bags!
We finally arrived at our hotel which is really nice and has a fridge and a microwave and we are about to go and get some food:)
Speak to you all later!
Love Daniel and Kathleen xxx
