Kate's Chronicles
Nha Trang has traditionally relied on its vast fishing industry which is evident in the lifestyle of the local people. Taking advantage of some of the best coastline and weather in Vietnam, Our hotel was a quick 5 minute walk from the main promenade but unfortunately it wasn't really the weather for taking a leisurely stroll. Being the monsoon season we were hit by rain and very windy weather!!
Nha Trang sits at the mouth of a beautiful bay with a huge sweeping beach and has developed into one of Vn main resort towns. With some of the clearest water in Vietnam, a cruise, snorkel and seafood lunch out on the bay amongst the islands off Nha Trang was simply a must-do.
No excuses for getting bored while cruising out to the islands....on offer were manicures, pedicures, massages!!!! I spent the grand total of $10 AUD and had all three. Visited the Tri Nguyen Aquarium before heading to Mieu Island and then a comical boatride in a conical boat to arrive at the a local fishing village on Tam Island.
Despite the less than pleasant weather we managed to have a good day, a few laughs (especially in the conical boats - very hard to "steer" a round object!!) so in the evening we wandered down to the Nha Trang Sailing Club for a drink or 2 on the beach. Our guide insisted we try the infamous "Jam Jars". What concoction of alcohol it is I'm not sure (just plenty of it in there!!) but they are so called as they serve them in jam jars!!! A few of us were a little unsteady on our way back to the hotel....but we put that down to our "sea' legs from earlier in the day.....
