Japanese Cooking Class!
I made food! And it was good!
We made Udon noodles, which was surprisingly easy! I think I'll be making those at home! We also made Okonomiyaki, which is the regional dish. Mainly egg, some veg and sauce on top. We did the street version. So you can do the restaurant version where you also have udon noodles with it and can add toppings like beef or cheese or squid. We made a chicken skewer which you marinade in sake and other things but I can't remember the name of that dish. Tasted so good!
I have to admit I was quite proud of myself!
When we had finished eating the owner showed us to where he got his knives. That was another thing. The knives we used. They were proper Japanese knives. Very, very different from any I've used before. Cutting up carrots, meat, anything, you barely had to push on it. The blade would just glide through, no snagging or anything. Cutting up the veg into tiny, itsy piece was so easy.
I was looking at them in the shop and they weren't that expensive either. Considering they are hand made. Need to get me one of those! But in Tokyo so I'm not bringing a very sharp knife around in my backpack.
It was about 2 when we finished and I was still kinda hungry so stopped for from deep fried things. Then headed over to the Tenojji Temple. By the time I got there the main temple was closed off but you could still walk around the gardens and see the other shrines there. There were very few people there because of the time, and I found walking around the shrines very calming since there was almost no one there.
I found a pond that had a swarm of Terrapins in that were just bobbing around or sitting in the sun I headed back after and chilled for the night.
