Beppu!
The place for hot springs!
Hotel. I'm staying in a hotel. I feel so fancy!! It has its own Onsen (hot spring bath) and BUFFET BREAKFAST. I'm so excited for that. A day of not having instant noodles for brekkie!
I arrived late afternoon very tired so I just found the nearest store, bought some food, went back, watched some Modern Family and crashed out.
So breakfast was awesome. They had Beppu's speciality dishes which was mainly chicken. They had some vegetable stuff I hadn't tried before so I just had a bit of everything. I think I went up about 4 times...
Then off to the 8 Boiling Hells of Beppu!
They're waay to hot to use so they're just to look at. But they did look very cool and was interesting to see how different each one was even though the distance between them was quite small. It was a chilly day but hot steam would come out from cracks in the wall so you could stand by them and be warmed up which was nice!
Each of the hot springs had their own name which connected to something about it. For example, Blood Hell, the water there turned a dark red colour that looked like blood. Oven Hell, which is used to cook foods, especially eggs. I think my favourite was Oven Hell because the colours were beautiful and the steam rose up through the trees and into the forest on the mountain.
There was also a geyser which is the most frequently erupting one in the world or something. So it was cool to see that!
Free strolling around for some time I headed back. Did some laundry (how exciting!) then used the hotels onsen. They had separate baths for female and male so it was naked bathing - which felt a bit weird at first then you realise everyone else is naked so it's not so weird. But man they were hot!
At first you're like, yeah I can get used to this, then you go into 'actually this is pretty hot' to 'yeah this is really hot now' to 'I'm feeling uncomfortably hot now' then finally 'nope. I'm out'
But it was quite nice to do before bed! And tomorrow...Nagasaki!
