MOHNKEHS
So off into the mountains I went!
After some uphill walking, the ground evened out so I take in my surrounding more. Great pine trees loomed around, snow that had almost turned to ice was around in clumps under the trees. A little river ran along the side of the path and that was the only sound you could hear. There was some more uphill climb to get to the monkey sanctuary but it gave you good views.
There was monkeys around before you even went into the area. So many of them! And so used to humans you could get right up close to them and they wouldn't bat an eye. Unless you had something of interest of course. Which they would try and steal. Like cameras...luckily the one that tried to take my was only a little one was it was ok. But had it been one of the big males I would have been a lot more nervous!
There was some very little monkeys clinging to their mothers. Some of the older ones were trying to escape from being cleaned. Since the sun was out they were all just lounging around, cleaning each other and picking of the fleas and popping them into their mouths. I went over to where the hot spring was, expecting none to be in there since they had already been fed and it was a warm enough day (for them) to not go in.
But there was a couple of them in the water while others played around on the ropes that had been hung around.
One cheeky monkey stole a water bottle out of a guys bag and proceeded to destroy it with great amusement. Causing the other monkeys to get jealous and try to steal the bottle. It was quite amusing to watch these monkeys chasing each other around on a mountain side with heavy rapids below them.
I stuck around for a while. Perhaps too long as I was lucky to be able to get a way back home to the hostel!
I've always wanted to see wild monkeys up close. And now I have!
