Went for breakfast first thing and checked out of our room. On the way to check out I saw the biggest spider I have ever seen. I know I usually exaggerate the size of spiders but this one was seriously bigger than my hand, just casually sitting there on a web on someone's window (not mine, I would have died if I had opened the curtains and seen that!!) I didn't even think it was real! Then, as I was freaking out a bit as we walked to the car, there was another one! I had to take.a picture, but it doesn't do the size of it justice at all, made me lose the feeling in my hands and feet for a bit!! Just something to haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life!
Finally had a hit of sun so did a spot more sunbathing by the pool and then I managed to beat Sam at a game of scrabble!
Got picked up and taken to get our wetsuits on ready for snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef!!
Walked down to the beach and into a little boat with about 20 people and headed out to sea! It was still windy so there were some pretty big waves, but that was just part of the fun!! Got absolutely soaked sitting at the back!
Saw some Dolphins on the way out, amazing!
Only took about 25 minutes to reach the reef, it is the closest you can get to it and there is only one company that can go to this particular part of the reef so there was no one else for miles around!
It was incredible, the colour of the sea was so beautiful! Got our snorkels and flippers on and jumped in! First trying we saw was a turtle!! Couldn't believe it, got pretty excited and swallowed a load of water! Think I just about got him on video as we were using Sams underwater camera! Sam was struggling a bit to snorkel, and when I watched him, he was trying to dive down under the water instead of stay on the surface! Haha, pretty funny, but he got there in the end and was actually pretty confident swimming around the reef!
It was just stunning, like another world! The different types of coral and fish were incredible! Just like finding nemo!! We had an hour in the water just swimming around, and it was a really low tide so we could get a lot closer to the coral. Apparently, it only gets that low 12 days a year, and was especially low today as there was a blue moon last night! So we were pretty lucky!
Got back on the boat and went a bit further up the reef and had some more time in the water, the tide was starting to come in by this time and it was pushing us really close to the coral, was scared of touching it as you can kill it really easily! And after about 30 minutes we were freezing so got back on the boat! Got loads of pictures on Sams camera but will have to wait for him to upload them onto the computer before i can put them on here!!!
Boat ride back was like a roller coaster! Was really choppy and we sat on the front this time!! Amazing experience!!
Drove back down to cairns, took about 3 hours and checked back into the hostel again.
