So we are now back in Arequipa, after our two day trekking tour up and down the Colca canyon.
We left at 3.30 in the morning and drove to a town called Chivay, where we had breakfast, we then drove on to the start of our trek and was told about what we would be doing for the two days.
Day 1, 7 hours tekking!!! day 2, 3 hours, all up hill. Some how i didnt realise it would be this energetic. Ha. We got marching and it was really good, dusty and lots of rocks so had to concerate so didnt fall down the canyon, but good. After 3 hours we reached a small house, where we stopped for some traditional local lunch, really tasty. The toilet however wasn´t so enjoyable but im getting over it. ha!! Then more marching, 4 hours or so, hard work, but our lovely guide Pablo, showed us the avacodo trees, and the aloe vera that was growing around us. We eventually reached "paradise"!! a beautiful resort type place that had been built for the tourists and trekkers. It was stunning. The pool´s water was from the waterfall which flowed into the Colca river. We had our own little room, which was lit only by candle light as no electricty!! Had dinner with our group, a swedish bloke, a german fella, two French lads and 3 brazilians!
Day two, 5am start climbing the Canyon. Knackering but views were amazing. Reached the top and had breakfast and travelled to hot springs!! so good.
By this point kate having stomach issues, due to altitude. Had 3 hour bus journey to return to Arequipa. Stomach issues became very urgent! ha! had to get bus to stop and ran to local restaurant with great speed. Not good, very embarrassed as was close to becoming seriously unpleasant. ha! thought id share this with you all!! ha
Now just gona have few days chilling here, next stop Cusco, for more altitude issues no doubt. great. ha!!
