San Sebastian! We reached our last stop in Spain at about 5pm on Sunday. Time for pinxos, pronounced pinchos it translates to spike, so it's similar to tapas but each little tapas has a toothpick through it. They're usually all displayed on the bar, you pick your food and then pay at the end. Majority of pinxos are served on little pieces of bread, things like little stuffed capsicums, crab meat wrapped in salmon, Brie cheese with prosciutto and cranberry jam, and lots of different hams, salamis and cheeses. We did a pinxos crawl through the old town, and went to a few bars in between.
Monday we had a late start, got some food and malaika slept off her alcohol headache whilst I walked around the town and explored. The beaches in San Sebastian are beautiful! We met up with Kris, who we became friends with on our Ibiza island hopper and we all cooked a chicken salad for dinner. That evening we booked our flights for Ireland to Scotland, and then watched Grease in the common room. We've missed movies in english!
Tuesday we were up bright and early, malaika went for a run and I walked about 5kms down the beach before breakfast. We went to the surf beach in town and Kris surfed while we enjoyed the sunshine. We grabbed picnic supplies from the supermarket afterwards and headed up a hill to the statue of Jesus. It's quite a walk! We had our picnic up the top of the hill overlooking the beach, that's my blog photo. We then explored the buildings surrounding the statue and headed back down. We did a little shopping for Malaika and Kris and went back to the hostel. We wandered the town that evening and eventually decided on Mexican for dinner. Delicious! We were crazy party animals that night & played scrabble before going to bed.
Wednesday we were nice and motivated and went for another run and walk before breakfast. Then it was beach time! We got a few more supplies and used our picnic from the previous day down at the beach. That evening we went on a sunset boat cruise with almost 100 others from our hostel. Drinks and nibbles supplied on the boat and then a pub crawl around the old town. Safe to say we had a pretty late night.
Thursday we woke, had some food to get ourselves motivated and went down to the beach again. Another wander to the surf beach before getting our favourite frozen yoghurt! That evening we had a little picnic at the hostel with our red wine & coke- famous as kalimotxos in Spain and enjoyed our last night in the beautiful country.
Next stop, Bordeaux!
