Bordeaux! All we knew about Bordeaux is that it's famous for its wine, and we were extremely surprised & impressed by the beautiful city! The whole place is stunning, the buildings are all built in the same sandy coloured stone, with the same dark grey roofs and cute pitched windows. It's really something else! There's a stunning fountain that we instantly fell in love with, and kept going back to and just sitting there.
We arrived in at 11.30am on Friday and checked into our hotel. We went to the tourism office to find out about wine tours and indulge in a macaroon- yum! Malaika slept off another hangover at the hotel and I wandered the city. Along by the river, through the old town, along the shopping streets and back to our hotel. She was still a bit precious so I explored up to a couple of museums- one was closed and the other only had parts open so I walked through what I could. Back to the hotel eventually to get malaika for dinner. We did a fair bit of wandering and I showed her the exciting things in town. We sat by the river for a while after dinner & eventually headed back to the hotel.
Saturday it was wine day! There were no tours available so we did our own thing. At 9.30 we jumped on a bus to the picturesque Sant Emillion- a wine region about an hour from Bordeaux. We found a cute little tourist train that went around all vineyards and stopped at one for a tour and wine tasting so we did that first. We then wandered the town and did a few tastings in different wine shops. Bordeaux is known for its red wine, and I'm not much of a red drinker but it was quite nice! We had lunch, snails for entree! They were surprisingly delicious. A garlic butter sauce with them, and still in the shell (my blog photo) we both really enjoyed them. We did a couple more tastings and bought two bottles between us- a white wine and a rosè before heading back to Bordeaux. We did a fair bit more wandering around the town that evening and enjoyed our last night there.
Next stop, Paris!
