Back to Barca! We arrived in at about 7pm Thursday and checked into our hostel. Decent place! We're a few train stops out of the city, so not central but it's a really good hostel. We have access to the gym and pool at the fitness centre, plus there's a terrace bar, good rooms, free computers and wifi, free brekky, a kitchen, laundry & all the other good stuff! We wandered to the supermarket and bought supplies for a big chicken salad, it's the one in my photo, before having an early night. Friday I woke earlyish to Skype Kristen and then we headed to the gym for a bit. We've been doing pretty much nothing to rest up in time for La Tomatina. We made lunch at the hostel- salad sandwiches, and also dinner- chicken stir fry with loads of vegies! We decided to check out the movies again and see Ted. About 10 minutes into the movie I felt extremely sick, ran out of the movie just in time for all of my dinner to come back up. Malaika felt the same so we left and came home. We both spent the evening vomiting- lovely! Must've been something we cooked.
Luckily we woke feeling better on Saturday but still took it easy. We looked at Ireland and Scotland on the Internet and bummed around all afternoon. We went and saw the Sagrada Familia in the afternoon- absolutely stunning cathedral designed by Gaudi. It's still not finished and has been under construction for hundreds of years. Because of this it has so many different types of architecture present, it's really impressive! We had a fairly relaxed evening.
Next stop, Valencia for La Tomatina!
Fun fact for the day- Gaudi was so involved with the building of the Sagrada Familia he started living there. He began to take on the look of a homeless person. One day he was admiring his work and stepped back in front of a tram, he was ignored for a while until someone recognized who he actually was and ordered that he be taken to the best hospital for treatment. His famous last words were 'take me to the people's hospital' (obviously in Spanish though, referring to the poor hospital) where he died shortly after.
