The weatherman nearly made me choke on my cup of tea when he described the forecast for today to hit the "dizzying heights" of 24 degrees! English folk predicted to be out in droves in their tank tops to catch the last of the sun now that it's officially Autumn. We were less confident- still popping the coats in the car just in case! Most days seem to alternate between sun and rain... but great for rainbows!
Adam and I hit the grand total of 23 years as a couple today (phew!). Had a lovely breakkie in the sunshine with beautiful cards from the kids. Went to the local playground where huge chestnut trees were showering down conkers every time there was a breeze. Collected a bag to try our hand at roasting them in your honour mum!!
To celebrate the big 23 we headed off to Cambridge to go punting on the River Cam. Such gorgeous weather and the autumn leaves just starting to turn. To ensure we didn't end up divorced by the end of the day, we booked a GUIDED tour. Apparently about 1 person a day falls in trying to punt themselves and we certainly saw some near misses! Boats were everywhere but it was still beautiful floating past all the colleges and hearing about all the history and famous scholars. Kids again enjoyed the ducks the most!
Random bit of trivia: the phrase "daylight robbery" arose from the "window tax" introduced in England. The more windows you had, the more you paid! Many were bricked up or made tiny as a result.
After quite a search, we finally found somewhere to have icecream. Strange there are so few places- a potentially lucrative business there! Went out for a very disappointing dinner at a local restaurant. Not quite what we'd imagined. Fingers crossed we don't re-live it later tonight. Nevertheless, a lovely anniversary!
