Happiness Is The Road
We had only been a tiny bit squiffy last night and we got up late so we were bright eyed and bushy tailed when we hit the road. We didn't have time for breakfast before we left the camp site so we drove to one of the town lookouts to have breakfast. We had a great view of the lakes while we ate. When we were taking some photos a really nice chap offered to take a picture of us together. We got talking to him and his wife and another couple they were with. They were all lovely people. One of the things we talked about was the mozzies and how to try and avoid being bitten. They suggested taking vitamin B and doubling up on the dose. We had heard from other people before that this works but we were unsure as to which type of B to take. They told us that it was B complex. We are going to give this a go as the mozzies are driving us a little bit crazy. From Lakes Entrance we drove down the coast to Cape Conran National Park. It had a good write up and we hoped that there would be a lot of wildlife. We discovered that the camping area was huge. There were five separate bush camping areas all amongst trees and very close to the beach. They all had fire pits as well which was good. Hopefully there wasn't a fire ban. We drove around the camp and it was fairly quiet which was nice. We then went and paid and to my delight found out that we could have a fire. We chose a nice spot on campground B and settled down for the rest of the day. The only facilities here were toilets but they were clean and of the flushing variety which was nice. We went for a walk later on and Jay, who is brilliant at spotting the wildlife, suddenly noticed a very large lizard. It was a goanna and was huge, it was about 4 foot long. It was really wonderful to see it. It was such a beautiful creature. It appeared to be scared of us and went to hide up a tree. It thought that we couldn't see it. Eventually we left it to come down and get on with it's day. We carried on with our walk over to the beach when suddenly Jay stopped us as there was a snake crossing the path in front of us. It was beautiful and we got a good look at it as it slithered past. It was black with a red belly. It had become a good day for wildlife spotting. We then went to the beach which was incredible, a very picturesque place. Later on after tea I got the fire going. This was the first fire since Jay has got here and it was just great to sit and warm ourselves by the flames. The sight of the flames flickering and the embers burning is just amazing and so relaxing. Who needs TV when you've got a fire to watch. Talking of TV I still avoid it and don't miss watching it in the slightest. We completed the day watching the fire glow, the stars twinkle in the sky, the orbs dance in the flash of the camera and the happiness shine in each others eyes.
