Happiness Is The Road
The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks nearby was very soothing and we both slept well except for needing wees at about 3am. All this noise of water both got us going it would seem. We couldn't be bothered walking through the dark with a torch to the pit toilets so I peed up against a tree and Jay peed in a bush. She was a bit worried about a snake biting her bum but she was okay. She's really enjoying and getting into roughing it on these sites. What a girl! We got up late and chilled for ages as there was no check out time here. After a leisurely breakfast we went down to the beach and had a scramble over all the rocks and walked down the beach. This place was just idyllic. At about 1pm we left as we wanted to cover some of the journey to Freycinet National Park. We decided to stop at a place called Bicheno. The guide books had said it was nice and the couple who we'd talked to at the Launceston camp had told us that it had good sea food restaurants. We had thought about treating ourselves. We stopped at a couple of places en route and arrived in Bicheno at about 4. It was a lovely little place. We had a mooch around but couldn't find any good restaurants and certainly no seafood ones. We found a camp site and checked in. It was a nice place and we had a quiet spot. Later on a great big red coach turned up and parked itself on the grass near the entrance to the site and one of the amenities blocks. It was a strange thing. The front half of it was like an ordinary coach with seating on each side. The back half was like a backpackers hostel on wheels. It had loads of tiny windows through which we could see beds. It was a bit of a cattle truck crossed with one of those Japanese small capsule hotels. It seemed though to be inhabited by Germans and they had a huge cooking pot outside in which they were making one of their putrid concoctions. All the seagulls were staring at them fascinated. We decided later on to use the other amenities block further away as Jay in particular has had enough problems with the Germans in the showers!
