Good morning Possums. I got up early today as I wanted to be at the ferry terminal in plenty of time for my ride across to Kangaroo Island. I mentioned yesterday about the sign at the camp telling you to beware of the greedy chocolate Labrador. Well I had nipped out of the camper for less than 30 seconds to go and put something in the bin and when I returned I was a bit startled as the chocolate Labrador was in the camper van having a mooch around! There was no food out so I think he was a bit disappointed. He got out when I came back but then proceeded to hang about by the door for ages just on the off chance! It was a short drive to the ferry. I got there early and watched the 9AM ferry load up and leave. I then went to check in and got the camper in line for the 10AM. All the cars were loaded first and then the higher vehicles were put on. I had to reverse all the way on but it was fine, no problem at all. The crossing to Kangaroo Island only took about 40 minutes. When the ramp came down at the other side I was the second vehicle off and headed for the capital of the island, Kingscote. I got some food here and had a look around and then went to Emu Bay a short drive away. There was a really lovely white sand beach here. Later on I drove to the camp site where I will be for two nights before I go to the animal sanctuary at Hanson Bay about 100 kilometres away down at the far end of the island. The next two nights are free as the camp site was included with the ferry ticket. The camp site is on Nepean Bay which is a lovely sheltered inlet. There were loads of Pelicans here, some of which were constantly arguing with the seagulls! Lovely hot weather today, probably about 30. I'm looking forward to seeing all the wonderful wildlife that this island has to offer.
