Happiness Is The Road
After brekky we made the short drive down the road to Watarrka National Park and Kings Canyon. We put our walking boots on an set off on the Kings Canyon walk, a six kilometre trail around the rim of the canyon. The weather was great today, warm with some blue peeking through the awesome looking cloud. The first part of the walk was up some very steep steps in the rock. The effort was well worth it though as the view at the top was magnificent. We then started walking around the rim and the canyon and whole area was simply stunning. It was breathtakingly, gobsmackingly, oustandingly dramatic and beautiful. This was a magical place and we absolutely loved it here. It is definitely one of the best places we have been to in Australia. The walls of Kings Canyon are over 100 metres high and we got some great photos looking out over the canyon. Every corner or turn we went round on the walk afforded us with more and more stunning views. The path wound it's way round the rim for the most part through the most amazing sandstone domes but also went down into one of the canyons which had a waterhole and was filled with the most lush looking tropical plants. The walk was estimated to take 3.5 hours but we stopped in awe so many times and to take loads of photos it was nearly five hours before we got back to the car park. For the best part of the walk there weren't too many people about to spoil the peace and ambience of the place. The only downside was one part where some annoyingly loud French girls were doing 'La Woop Wooping'! We were shattered when we got back to the camper but very happy as we had had such a great day. The flies here were pretty bad. Some of them keep flying around your face and occasionally they go up your nose or in your mouth and you have to spit them out. Most of them though seemed to use me for a free ride around the canyon. For the duration I had loads of them on my back and backpack. By the end of the walk me and the flies had got a bit of a thing going and were on first name terms. It was hard to say goodbye but I eventually managed to shake them off! We saw a good sunset in the evening but we didn't see any more dingoes. The dingo feeder seemed to have gone out somewhere tonight, maybe she'd run out of Mars bars! Nite nite.
