Happiness Is The Road
We had a lie in and an easy morning. We decided to stay at this camp site one more night. Around lunchtime we went for a walk. We followed the path from the camp site through a field of the cutest little cows who were very curious to see us in their field. Once through the field we followed a gravel road to the harbour and the mucky little beach at it's edge. We were afforded with a great view over the water and the surrounding hills. From here we walked back up the gravel road past loads more curious cows and around to the pretty centre of Matakohe with it's period buildings. A sign informed us that Matakohe had celebrated it's 150th anniversary last year. The word 'Crikey' was emblazoned on the rear of the sign. Once back at the camp site we simply chilled out for the rest of the day. It was lovely and peaceful until some extremely loud Aussies turned up in two huge campers. Typically they had their PA systems turned up to maximum! They were hilarious to watch. There were some barbecues outside the kitchen that were covered in cobwebs and looked like they'd seen better days. They were eyed suspiciously but they just couldn't help themselves, they just had to cook their meat on them. They were so predictable! Later on whilst we were doing our dishes in the kitchen we were visited by the camp site cat, a really tatty and cute thing who wanted a cuddle. We washed up, stroked the cat and went to bed.
