Happiness Is The Road
We had a lie in and got up late. Under door number 17 of our advent calendar we were absolutely thrilled to find a really cute pig wearing a christmas hat. After brekky, and with the rain hammering down, we had a drive through the suburbs to find The Palms Shopping Mall where there was a cinema. This was the perfect thing to do on a very wet day. For ages we have been looking forward to seeing the 'Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa' movie. It had just been released in New Zealand. When famous DJ Alan Partridge's radio station is taken over by a new media conglomerate, it sets in motion a chain of events which see Alan having to work with the police to defuse a potentially violent siege. It was absolutely hilarious. We really enjoyed ourselves especially as this was the very first time that we have been to the cinema together. After this we had a wander round the shopping centre which for only a week before christmas wasn't really that busy. In the UK by now I would imagine that everywhere is in utter chaos as the mad festive time approaches. With the warmer weather here and the light evenings it doesn't feel even remotely like christmas. The very few christmas trees and decorations that we have seen look strange and misplaced. Christmas just doesn't feel like christmas when it's summer. After this we drove to a New World supermarket before returning to the camp site. The roads are in a terrible condition being all patched up and bumpy which is no surprise given the terrible 7.1 magnitude earthquake that Christchurch suffered on 22nd February 2011. There are roadworks everywhere and a lot of bridges are still being repaired. Wherever you look in the suburbs Christchurch's scars are still evident. For the rest of the day we chilled out. The rain had now stopped and the sun was out again.
