Happiness Is The Road
It had been another noisy night on the Canberra sink estate site. There were noises coming from somewhere which sounded like someone possibly being murdered. We never found out what had occurred not that we wanted to. The other nasty thing about this camp site was that near the reception they had two fairly small outside cages which contained two gold crested cockatoos. We think this is disgusting as birds like this are flying wild and free nearby. Birds should be able to fly and stretch their wings. The parks owners should be very ashamed of themselves for this. We needed to get away from this place so we left early having decided to have breakfast on the road. We drove to the Australian National Botanic Gardens and had breakfast in the car park. This was much better than on the set of Shameless! After brekky we went for a walk around the gardens which were really lovely. There was a loop walk which took us through a rainforest gully and we got to see and find out about all sorts of native Australian plants and trees. We saw some large lizards and we got a view of the Telstra Tower on the top of Black Mountain which was right next to the gardens. After the garden walk we had a drive to the top of Black Mountain so we could go up the tower. We got the lift to the viewing areas which were high up the tower and took in the magnificent views. We could see across the whole city. We really enjoyed ourselves this morning and left Canberra with some positive views of the place. We drove back to Batemans Bay on the coast via Braidwood and around all the hair pin bends again. At Batemans Bay we did some food shopping and then went to find a camp site. We had decided to go to Murramarang National Park and see what the Depot Beach campground was like. It was absolutely wonderful and it was so great to be here after the traumas of Canberra. The camp site was very close to the beach and in amongst some majestic huge trees. The first thing we saw when we drove in was loads of kangaroos grazing on the grass by the entrance. It was fantastic to be back with the gorgeous roos. We got a lovely quiet spot in the corner of the site and relaxed. There was a fire container as well which was an added bonus. We relaxed for the rest of the day and watched the wildlife. There were lots of gorgeous looking birds here. We saw loads of kookaburras up really close. They were very tame. We also saw loads of cheeky red parrot birds who came by to say hello. We had our tea in front of a roaring fire and watched it go dark. We looked up into the tall trees and saw the stars twinkling through. It was magical. Suddenly Jay heard something next to us in the dark. We shone the torch and saw a possum walking right next to us. It had a little baby holding on to it's back. It was the cutest thing we have ever seen. We went to bed very happy.
