The Adventure Begins - Nov 30th 2007

In hindsight it maybe wasn't the best idea to work right up until 5 minutes before we set out on our 23,000 km, 6 month Southern Africa road trip but that's the way it was and Paul had been working part time for the month doing the final preparations with Dave and Kaz.I 'worked' on Friday morning, and was picked up at about 12.30 by the landy.I was a bit shocked to see how loaded up Kal was but I think that was partly due to the 7-8 bottles of wine packed in there and knew that wouldn't last long!!It was great to have everyone come out from work and wave us off - thanks again everyone at StateStreet!! Jason those tunes were just what we needed as we hit the road - thank you. I'd managed to keep it together all morning, apart from a slight slip when talking to Gus but as we finally headed out of the car park there was definitely a tear or two!This was the start of a huge adventure for us, I was excited and a little nervous too - would Africa treat us well or give us challenges at every corner, only time would tell.

From Cape Town we headed up the N1 to Beaufort West and the Karoo National Park which was to be our home for our first two nights of camping.Day 1 had taken us 491km…..
