After a crazy/busy start to our time in Brasov, the last three days have been the ultimate in chill-axing. And it has certainly been chilly! Overnight lows have been down to -12 degrees and days have been blue skies and sunny and usually freezing... 0 degrees or a bit more. On Friday we finally managed to leave the house by midday, did a spot of grocery shopping at Billa (our new fave hunting ground for ready to eat Romanian food). By the time we had a late lunch and sloped down the street to visit the interior of the Black Church, it had already closed as of 3 pm (obviously a 'sign' not to bother). Saturday saw us much more psyched up and we were out of the house even prior to midday - we headed on foot to the base of Mount Tampa (Brasov is tucked tidily into the base of the mountain). We followed the line of old Kronstadt's medieval walls and saw the various fortification bastions and tours. Then it was off to do the Dance of the 7 ATMS (veils optional) - Only visited 3 before we had had a win and convinced some of our own cash to flow. Rather interestingly a woman of Romanian appearance (or gypsy) followed us out of the supermarket where we'd paid with a 100 lei note (anything to get change - it's the equivalent of about 20-25 euro but big money in these parts). Anyway, she skulked after us to the 1st ATM that wasn't in the mood, to the 2nd, which was out of order, to the 3rd, which went through the whole procedure before deciding our card was invalid, all the way to the 4th when we got some cash - watching, walking, doubling back, passing and repassing us, faking into doorways. She was so obvious we were afeared that we were watching the wrong birdie and were about to get bumped into by a crony. We also work as a team however and have various methods of ensuring cash and purses are un-get-attable. Home for lunch. Tiny bit of packing. Sunday saw us head to the station for our 1 pm train to Sibiu - and that's us - Farewell Brasov!
