Blessington is a get ahead little town with a growing population and lots of lovely new shops (including a Dunnes and Aldi). It still has a quaint main street, even with the N81 running straight through town. Pubs, cafes, real estate agents and hairdressers seem to be in the majority. There are 3 signs pointing to the Tourist Information centre (all at different angles) and on Saturday we found it after a bit of a hunt. And found that it's only open Monday to Friday (positively French - sometimes we found info centres there that were only open 3 times a week!) We did an up and back of the main street, enjoying the old buildings and saw the old blacksmith's forge with the horseshoe arch entranceway. We've never seen one before and this was our 3rd in as many days. On our drive home we stopped in at the beginning of the Blessington Greenway - a 6.5 km walk along the lake and through forest. We walked a couple of kms and then back to the car. The only downside to this wonderful area is that it's not a loop - so to do the whole walk is a 13 km jaunt. Might have to work up to that and start out in stages!
