We were both under the weather yesterday morning - chronic SOS after our 2 day sightseeing marathon. We self-prescribed a couple of days of R&R and at least six hot tubs per day. Nothing too serious mind - just 'Scenery Overload Syndrome'. Our cabin may be lacking an actual geyser/waterfall/lagoon of floating icebergs/diamond beach on it's doorstep... but we're pretty much still smack bang in the middle of glorious, wintry scenery. It's even snowed a few times over the last couple of days adding to the wintry-ness of it all. There is a geothermal hot pool (The Secret Lagoon) just over the way that looks like a back entrance to Hell - especially at night when the lights glow orange and the steam (sulphur? brimstone?) rises high in the air. It's apparently 24 kms away - but lucky to be 5 km as the crow flies. Now that we are firmly ensconced in our own geothermal paradise, we are wondering at the necessity of actually paying to visit a complex and sit in geothermal pools with a bunch of strangers... funny how having a hot tub fed by a hot spring in at the back door changes your thinking. Definitely leaving the Hardie-Hobbit-Hole tomorrow - off to see the Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir area. Meanwhile, watching big fluffy snowflakes fall as the day fades to night in utter silence is about as relaxing as it gets. Probably time for another hot tub.
