Today I had a bit of a sleep in which was nice before grabbing a quick breakfast and making our way to Malaka - a famous Portuguese settlement on the coast of Malaysia.
The journey was just under 200km but because of the insane traffic it took us nearlly 5 hours to reach our hotel.
Luckily we had loads of tasty Chinese snacks like dried squid, coconut cookies, caramel popcorn and custard biscuits to keep us energized on the drive.
We arrived at the Equatorial hotel a 5 star hotel and wow valet parking, ferraris and famous people in the lobby - I am certainly being treated tonight! We checked in, dropped our things off and headed out for a look around.
Very picturesque town based around the coast with a canal that separates the city in two.
First stop was the old Portuguese fort ontop of the hill - a nice reminder of my time in Portugal.
Next the Chinese house of delicacies - and hell yes free samples of everything: I tried about 10 different cakes, biscuits, pastries, Chinese health drinks and candies - I settled on a box of wasabi nuts and some delicious chicken curry biscuits. Next Macy wanted me to try the local drink Durian Chendol - very famous in this part of Mslaysia: basically consisting of Durian (very stinky fruit - banned in Singapore) crushed ice, green jelly pasta, red kidney beans, coconut milk and condensed milk. Not something I would usually try or drink but once again I am travelling and must try new things and wow more like a thick soup semi sweet with a delicious flavour I had never tasted before. I managed to finish half but have me a big tummy ache. We continued to the night market viewing and sampling various foods and watching the mass of tourists and holiday makers. We went for a big walk along the river and took some nice photos of the artwork on all the buildings along the river. After a few hours walk we decided to get some dinner; tonight traditional Chinese seafood: stingray curry with green bean and ocra - so delicious. And a squid curry with onion bean and a few other bits and pieces and a strange drink made from roasted sea coconut. This meal really hit all the senses - hot, sweet, sour, spicy - I really can't imagine having a bad meal here, the problem is always when to stop eating. After dinner we headed back to the hotel and I had myself a bath for the first time in probably 6 months.
