Finally a good nights sleep and I am up ready for another action packed day!
We checked out of the hotel at about 9am and headed for Johor Baru. We stopped at Macy's place to get a few things and have a late breakfast before setting off for Desaru.
The rain started and came down hard for the two hour drive out to the coast and just shy of Desuru the traffic jam started - it turns out 10000 other people had the same idea as us.
The rain was so heavy you could barely see 20m infront of the car but we continued into the small town. We checked every hotel, chalet for availability but the town was absolutely overrun with holiday makers even in the terrible weather. After trying all the places and 2 hours of driving around we gave up and decided to head to the beach. I felt bad Macy had driven all this way and not only we couldn't find Accomodation but the weather was so bad so I grit my teeth and in the pouring rain and cold went for a swim - the water was actually nice and warm but very muddy and sludgy so I was in and out in 10 minutes. The rain came down hard again so we decided to head back to JB and then onto another town.
After a 3 hour drive and even worsening weather we decided to call it a day and stay the night in JB and tomorrow head to Malacca.
We went out for what is commonly called: roadside satay and like all my food experiences in Malaysia this meal did not let me down: beef satay sticks, served with cucumbers and onions, and rice cakes and a huge bowl of the most delicious satay sauce to go with it. A very typical, cheap and tasty Malaysian dish and the best thing I was finally getting some red meat into my body.
After dinner we headed into the city and walked around the night markets for a couple of hours and watched all the people enjoying their extra long weekends. So festive so much fun and no one in a hurry makes for a nice environment.
