Today we are off to Kuala Lumpur for Caths cousins wedding dinner - so its up early and time to get organized.
We were supposed to be in the car and on the road by 12pm but that didn't happen haha it's very hard to organize a big Indian family so by 2pm we had left the house but had 5 stops before we would actually be on the road.
The road was a super highway but unfortunately the sun was beating down on my side of the car and there was no aircon and to go with that they are a big family and with 5 of us squished in the car it was anything but comfortable. I guess that makes it even more special that they would all give up a certain level of comfort to let me drag along - truly beautiful family :)
We stopped at about half-way for some much needed refreshments and then back on the road.
We arrived into KL at about 6pm but took us an hour to get to Caths Uncles house where we would be staying (we got very lost and what followed was an all out Indian lady raising your voice I know what direction screaming debate). We arrived and we were already late for wedding and we still needed to get dressed and drive to venue.
I was getting worried how late we were but after a very long getting changed episode and then being stuck in a KL traffic Jam we arrived about an hour and a half late but amazingly just as the first course was coming out - score (I have barely eaten all day in order for maximum consumption tonight).
The wedding is at a beautiful golf course and the room is sitting about 600 guests and it is obvious no expense has been spared.
We say hello to various family members and then manage to find some empty seats.
The food tonight is typical Chinese 9 course meal - I know unbelievable:
The first course is a platter of satay chicken, fried omellette and vegetable, spring rolls and crab claws and oh my this is heaven - I am so hungry I eat too much before even realizing there are 9 more courses.
A Red wine sir - don't mind if I do actually make that two - lifes great!
Next Course: Hot & Sour Szechaun soup - very different texture but very hearty soup.
Next Course: Roasted Chicken and Thai chicken in sweet & sour sauce with salad - ok now this was mouth wateringly delicious - so moist and the perfect sauce to compliment so Ofcourse back for seconds.
One thing to mention is this food is being served to the tables of 12 people but amazingly at our table there is only the 4 of us so we are getting triple the food!
Next Course: your kidding me there is more? Steamed Pompret with soy sauce - now this was the absolute highlight - so fresh with meat falling away from the bone I am going into a food coma - where am I finding all this room?
Next Course: Kam Hiong Prawns - ok wow with heads stuffed with the most amazing sauce - I ate about 8 of these and would of kept going - this food is truly some of the best food I have ever eaten.
Next Course: mushroom and Siew pack in Oyster sauce - ok this has to stop the food gets better and how am I still eating?
Next Course: Fried Rice - thank god something I can skip :)
Next Course: Chilled sea coconut with Longan - similar to a fruit salad but not overly sweet :)
Next Course: Chinese Pancake with a blueberry stuffing - I am even eating the desserts.
Final Course: some hot Chinese Tea and a Whisky and water to was it down.

Everybody I met was so wonderful and so full of life, people drank but not too excess, singers and entertainers played throughout the night, professional photographers snapped photos and the wait staff hurriedly rushed around course after course. Absolute craziness but organized craziness with the utmost attention to detail.
At the end of the night we all got on the dance floor and like my dream I finally got to dance at an Indian wedding to classic Indian music. A Michael Jackson song came on and two Indian guys from different sides of the family had a dance off on stage - epic! By about 12:30am after a heap more photos we made our way back to Caths Uncles place.
Although it was nearlly 1am Caths Aunt and Uncle offered to take me out and drive me around the city as today would be my only day in KL.
So we got changed jumped in car and off we went.
They took me everywhere, first stop was at the former worlds tallest buildings and wow amazing hard to fathom the height it was almost dizzying. Next stop was the party district and my god traffic jams at 2am this city never sleeps, we continued on to the backpacker area and Little China. I feel now I need to come back to KL it seems like a much more bearable city then I had previously thought. The final stop was Little India and by this time it was 3am and time for bed.
What an amazing day!
