Parasites!! Today I hadn't planned anything and decided it was a good time to do some Spanish study. Asia headed off early to see the nearby ruins that I had visited last week and Rene was off to look at buying a new business. Mid morning I walked to downtown and when I was walking all of a sudden I was hit with an almighty bang and my vision went blurry!!? A guy had been running and come around a corner very quickly and we had smashed heads - it took me a minute to compose myself and realized what the hell had happened. So with a big bump on my head and an instant headache I continued on to the market to buy a few things. For lunch I made my way back to Rene's and joined him for lunch and to watch the final of the Men's US Open in tennis. After lunch my stomach was acting up so I figured it was a good time to go and get it looked at. I walked to the hospital and all the streets leading up to it were crammed with pharmacists, doctors and various types of laboratories. Through my very bad Spanish and some help by some friendly locals i was able to figure out what building I was supposed to go to. After a very confusing conversation I was given a tiny sample jar and literally told to s*** in it!!?? Arghhhhh but but how.... and yes this is my first time doing a stool sample and I will just say its neither comfortable or easy specially in a tiny shoe box of a toilet with a broken door and a case of diarrhea. God knows how but I managed to get a sample after working some of my acrobatic skills. Within 15 minutes and for just $1.50 I had my results and they were not good - I have a parasite and would need to see a doctor. Thinking the doctor is probably a waste of time and money (as I won't understand him anyways) I headed straight to the pharmacist where they were able to get their insure Dr to prescribe some medication for me. It's a nice feeling to know that all the tiredness, diarrhea and vomiting had been caused by something and now hopefully I can get it all sorted out. With a spring in my step and feeling a definite need to learn and practice Spanish I used the rest of the day to study up on my Spanish.
