Siem Reap Day 1!! Without too much sleep again I woke today realizing I had better start to like this place as I don't fancy catching another hellish bus all over the country when I just have 10 days left. At 7am I made my way down for breakfast which was surprisingly good with a baguette, 2 eggs (cooked anyway you like), fruit and hot tea - this had my mood up. I did a quick workout, packed a bag and headed to the city to explore and get some info about tours.
I found myself in the old market and couldn't help but buy some of my favorite fruit; jackfruit and also some dried mango. I wondered around the market wishing I had more of an appetite to try some of the delicious looking snacks and sweets on display but also figure I have a week here and will have ample chance. I did some souvenir looking and figured out what I might buy my family for Christmas. Next stop was the tour agencies to get some info on tours, prices and ideas for what I might do with my week here in Siem Reap. For lunch I headed back to the market and brought some green vegetable and fish soup and some other thing that I ended up having to throw on account it was made of pig fat and gristle. By late afternoon I was tired and walked back to the hostel to get some rest from the intense midday heat. In the evening I headed back to the centre (about a 20 minute walk) and looked for a nice resteraunt in which to treat myself to a nice dinner. I found a nice place with lots of happy looking tourists and ordered up the fried ginger and pork stirfry. The meal took nearlly an hour to arrive and I almost walked out the door but in the end was worth every waiting minute; the pork was soft and tender and the thick ginger and fish sause with pieces of fried ginger was heavenly. I savored every morsal and found my vice for the next week here in Siem Reap; trying lots of different foods.
