Today I was up early again with the other people staying at our accomodation who had to be up at 4am for their transfer to San Pedro Atacama. Breakfast was served at 6:30am this morning and it was rather disappointing to say the least; 2 pancakes each with jam and caramel and luke warm water for hot chocolate. We had the wagon packed by 7:30am and we were off to see more strange landscapes, lagunas and stay in a salt hotel tonight. The first stop was this strange desert filled with rock formations of every conceivable shape and image you can think of. I decided to climb up the first rock feature that was shaped like the head of a man and at our second stop we came to this gigantic camel rock formation and we all decided to climb up it. It was really difficult to climb up and even more difficult to climb down but we all had a good laugh and got some awsome photos. Señora was sitting at the bottom encouraging us to go higher and do stupid poses - today is going to be a good day. The next stop was more rock formations named after two Italians who had got lost out here a few years back - here we found holes in the rocks, a rock in the shape of a heart and many other strange formations; an absolute photographers paradise. Señora has become like our mother and mid-morning whipped out the biscuits and juice for us; after a feed we were off again. We stopped in a small town where we discussed the route for the rest of the day and had lunch. For lunch we were served up a garden salad, roast chicken, roast potatoes/bananas, and a potato and carrot salad - so certainly couldn't complain with that and even the coca cola was brought out as a treat. The next 3 hours we 4wd through the dessert in search of a place called Galaxia, we saw ostriches, llamas and some other strange herd animals whilst getting completely lost. We finally made it to this amazing place we were told so much about; Galaxia - which turned out to be the biggest crock of crap rip-off I have ever seen in my life. Myself and Peter had said it sounded a bit suss this change in plans and the additional money we had to pay to visit this amazing site but the others insisted so we agreed to join. After paying the money we were taken into this cave which wouldn't of been 5m in depth and that was literally it- no explanation, no great rock formations like we were promised nothing. At this point we were all royally pissed off and I had to bite my tongue as I had told them the scam that was being played before we even arrived. These type of scams happen a lot when you travel and I have become a bit savvy to them now but hopefully the others learned a lesson and won't fall for the same crap so easily next time. We continued on to our hostel for the night and on arrival we were told we wouldn't be sleeping in a salt hotel as we were promised - you can imagine our disappointment only to find when we walked in Señora was having us on and it was in fact a salt hotel built inside an old unfinished Bolivian house in the middle of a derelict town. It was pretty amazing all the floors were made of hard salt and then layered with salt granules and the walls were made of solid salt blocks - a little gimmicky but cool none the less. We had a bit of a snack of tea and biscuits and for some reason the hot tea made me feel really ill and I had to go lye down for a few hours - maybe heat exhaustion. Dinner was in a big dinning room also made of salt and for our final supper we had spaghetti and tomato salsa and soup - a bit of a downer for me as I couldn't eat the spaghetti or cheese but the bottle of red wine that was given to us more then made up for it. A few of the lads had also brought some white wine so after dinner we sat around and had a few drinks whilst talking about the tour and the plan for Chile. There were a heap of other people staying at the salt hotel aswell but it wasn't a real social atmosphere and the fact we all had to be up at 4am meant everyone was off to bed early.
