We woke up thi morning and looked out of the window and couldn't see very much at all! It was misty all over the hills. I hadn't realised it was the wet season here at this time of year.
We went on an all day island tour which was great for seeing a lot of Hong Kong island despite the gloom. We visited Man Mo Temple. This is a Taoist temple and they have different beliefs to Buddhists. The temple was very smoky because of the burning incense and very highly decorated.
Next we took the tram up to the Peak. It is very steep in places and it was such a shame that we couldn't see anything and it was a 'pea souper'at the top! There is a big shopping area at the top, some souvenir shops but also a lot of posh shops. We will have to come back to see the spectacular view from here, today we just imagined. We had our photo taken by the photogrspher but he superimposed us onto a sunny day background!
On the other side of the island is Aberdeen harbour which is an old traditional fishing village. We had a sampan ride round the harbour looking at the old sampans and the houseboats. There were also some expensive looking boats which really showed the contrast between the very poor and the very rich.
The sampan took us to the Jumbo Kingdom for a Dim Sum lunch. Although this sounds tacky it was really lovely and a taste of authentic Chinese food. Many famous people have dined here including the Queen and Ton Cruise. Not together though.
A jewellery merchants was next. They hadsome lovely pieces and Mick was kind enough to buy me a lovely necklace for the year of the snake!
By this time the rain was horrendous and there was lightning and thunder. Our last stop was Stanley market which luckily was undercover. Like all the markets it is a warren of streets packed with stalls selling a range of goods. We were all glad to get back to the coach as we were dripping although the tour guide did provide umbrellas for us.
We eventually arrived back at the hotel abou 6:30 and we are not going out again. A quick snack in the hotel will suffice.
Tomorrow our flight back to England leaves at 10:00 and arrives at 4:00 GMT. There will be one more blog to finish off the holiday.
