We arrived in Hong Konga about 7:30 this morning just after the rain had stopped. Although warm it was very cloudy and misty which meant we couldn't see allthe hills or the top of The Peak. We are staying in the mid-levels very near the travelators for those of you who know Hong Kong. We caught the train to zHong Kong island from the airport and then a taxi to the hotel.

After depositing our bags at the hotel we set off exploring. We walked down the stairs to the lower levels and meandered around the streets. Hong Kong is very bright, very busy and very crowded. It is a real mix of very old and new mingled together with lots of small streets and alleys.

We ended up at the water and took the Star ferry across the water to Kowloon where we walked along the Avenue of Stars. The only star we knew was Bruce Lee! We crossed back and then found the travelators to take us back to the hotel to freshen up.

At 3:00 we set off again as we had booked an evening trip. We walked back down and caught a tram to get to the Marriot hotel to be picked up. The trams afe lovely and are different in style to Adelaide and Melbourne. You get on at the front and pay as you get off at the front which seems to work very well.

We were picked up on time and set off to the famous Temple Market in Kowloon. It is a night market and the stalla seem to stretch for ever down the street and it is heaving with people. Everywhere is vibrant and bright.

Next an open-top bus tour around the city and then onto a cruise ferry. At 8:00 we watched the famous Hong Kong lightshow when many of the buildings are illuminated and lasers are used on the tops of some buildings. It was interesting to watch but not as spectacular as I expected. Lunch on the boat was a little disappointing but it was great going round and round the harbour watching Hong Kong at night.

As we arrived back the rain had started again. Hopefully it will clear up by tomorrow as we have booked a day sightseeing trip tomorrow which includes the Peak.
