A short drive of one hour took us into Melbourne and we immediately parked - mainly because i was so scared of having to do one of the infamous "hook turns", Melbourne's reknowned accident-causing strange tram-avoiding right handers where you have to get into the left lane to turn right and give way to everything first - weird.
We seemed to be right in the heart of everything and were a bit phased by the full-on-ness of this packed city. Not a new experience for me or Mum but we were very tired and just wanted to chill out! Accommodation turned into a bit of mare - all expensive and full! We ended up in a big dingy one, but along with all the other hostels we had stayed in, it gave Mum a good idea of the types of places i have been living in.
We met lovely Joseph for an evening drink at St Kilda and watched the sunset. It was great to see him and he'll be putting me up when Mum departs.
