This holiday proves "dreams do come true"; sometimes it was the only thing I could think about when I was cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats just a month ago. The cycling challenge was to test me, which it did, while this was to celebrate my 60th birthday and I am glad I didn't combine them!
We left home at the unearthly hour of 0415 - clearly getting up an hour earlier, to catch the only suitable Saturday morning train, at 0438. With the Saturday service not being up to weekday standards this was the only train that allowed us to breakfast and happily connect with our 1015 BA departure to Nairobi from Terminal 5.
The flight was good and at least allowed some catch up sleep. We arrived in Nairobi just before 9pm and after negotiating immigration we took a taxi to the Hilton, one of the best spots to stay for proximity, before connecting with our early flight Sunday morning from Wilson Airport to Amboseli - check in 0715.
Today's photo is of Echo's family - the now deceased matriarch and star of the research study and TV programme - the guide who collected us used to work on the project and knew them all. One of my birthday presents, from Tracy and Steve, was sponsorship for little Ewok - I am sure we probably saw him!
