We woke up in Wonaka to a lovely day of sunshine. We decided to look around the town, which is a popular ski resort in winter. Whilst in the small mall in town we found an English shop so decided to have a look, in there was a couple from Wivenhoe who had moved out to New Zealand 6 years ago. Small world! We spent a good hour chatting to them, they were really friendly and full of helpful advice for moving to New Zealand...although after visiting here you don't need much persuasion. They gave us they're email address for any unanswered questions that we may have. The sun was still shining in the afternoon so we had a picnic by the lake. It was a beautiful view with mountains surrounding the blue water. The water was so inviting but was freezing, Rachel only went as far as her ankles, although some people were brave enough to venture in completely. There was lots going on, with people kayaking and sailing but it was still peaceful. We spent the afternoon relaxing in the sun before getting a beer in town. We were tempted by all the lovely restaurants in the town, but were good and went back to the campsite to cook up our healthiest meal yet of just vegetables. We both felt we needed a bit of a detox before a weekend in Queenstown.
