We arrived late afternoon, although it does not get dark here until about 10pm. Dunedin is a student town and seemed very industrialised on the outskirts. In the morning we took a 45 minute walk in to the town. Out of all the places in New Zealand, it is the most similar to an English town. The town was originally a Scot settlement. There are a lot of Victorian buildings and a grand station house, which is now an art gallery. In the center of the town there is an octagon with lots of cafes and bars around. We could tell it was a student town by the amount of fast food places and cheap shops which was a bonus for us! We had a look in a couple and did a bit of shopping. The most important thing we bought was a tin opener in a dollar store, which will be handy for our baked beans. J also got a much needed top, Rachel could have bought loads but was good as she still hasn't worn half of her clothes! The weather started to get worse during the afternoon so we began to walk back to the campsite. It was a cold and windy night so we spent it playing yanif in our cosy camper!
