Ok, this island may not actually exist. And even if it does, we might not be able to get there. But look at it like this; what else is there to do around here?...............
So we are currently flying back to Kuala Lumpur (KL) having been to Koh Phi Phi. You're probably thinking we must really like KL because we keep going there but this time we're going to see the city and not just sit in transit like the previous couple of occasions.
Anyway, for those of you that don't know, Phi Phi is made up of two islands. Phi Phi Don is the big island and Phi Phi Leh is the small island. Phi Phi Leh includes Maya Bay, also known as the beach from the film The Beach. Leonardo Di Caprio finds this hidden island, lives there, falls in love with a French girl and goes mental. Sorry if you haven't seen it. I might have just ruined it for you. Good film though so watch it anyway. It's also one of the islands that was really badly hit by the tsunami in 2004.
So after a couple of nights in Phuket we got the ferry over to Phi Phi with Matt (Pete's Australian friend) and Tess (Matt's girlfriend). The boat journey was a little bumpy so Matt and I headed up on deck to get some fresh air and see the views. Pete and Tess slept. As we approached Phi Phi we could see people cliff jumping into the sea and it looked incredible. So anyway we arrived at the beach on the boat, grabbed our bags, and headed off to find our hostel.
We arrived at our hostel and the first thing we checked was that the air con worked (after the Phuket situation). It did, and so did the fan. In fact, we thought the room was again really nice. TV, fridge with FREE water again. We couldn't ask for more. On the other hand we could have asked for less. The room came with complimentary bed bugs that hadn't eaten in months. Lucky for me, Pete clearly tasted great because he got it a lot worse.
Anyway so we had a look around and then met Matt and Tess for some lunch. Phi phi is beautiful. Great scenery, clear sea water, and the sun was shining. What more could we ask for? Also being such a small island there were no cars or motorbikes. Everyone walked or cycled everywhere. If you wanted to go to the other side of the island you could get a taxi boat but there wasn't loads going on there.
So after our late lunch we headed back to nap/chill out before heading out for some drinks. We met up with the others in Reggae Bar, a massive bar with a boxing ring in the middle. Tourists could earn a free bucket by fighting each other. We politely declined their offer and paid for our drinks. The four of us then got a bucket off a street vendor, headed to the beach and watched the fire show. After these buckets we headed to a bar called Dojos where we bumped into Hannah and Al, a couple we met in Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and now Phi Phi. We had quite a few more drinks here with them which ended up with us all dancing on the tables. After dancing on tables Tess jumped down/Pete pulled her off the table where she fell and cut her knee. The story depends on who you believe out of Pete and Tess. So after this it was a bit blurry but Tess was taken home and left with her head in the toilet/tucked up in bed nicely. From here Matt, Pete and I headed down to the beach where we attempted a game of pool. On the way to the beach we stopped to have the most amazing prawns. They were huge and barbecued in sweet chilly sauce. After this we left Pete talking to some people and Matt and I headed to the beach where we met loads of people, had a few drinks and partied on the beach. About 5am I headed home and it wasn't until this point that I wondered where Pete was. After all, I had the room key and reception wasn't open 24 hours. So I headed back expecting him to be passed out outside our room. Phi Phi may be a small island but on your first night finding your way home it's confusing. Anyway about 30 minutes later I made it home and no Pete. Had he got lucky? Who knew. So I went into the room and here I saw something I never expected. It was Pete. He was in the pose Rose makes in the Titanic when Jack is drawing her with only his pillow covering his crotch. First question was "Are you naked?" to which I got the reply "Noooo. Turn around." So he put his boxers on and then question number two "How did you get in?" to which I got the reply (as if really obvious) "The window". Of course, how stupid of me. We were one floor up?!?!? He had climbed out of the window in the hallway, across the roof and opened our window from outside and climbed in. Security is good then.
So next day we woke up and met Tess for lunch. Matt didn't come because he had been throwing up all morning. Apparently it was the prawns we ate and not the amount of alcohol we had been drinking (Pete and I were tip top and we shared the prawns). After lunch we headed back to Matt and Tess's to have a swim and chill by the pool. We did this for the afternoon and then Pete and I headed out again on a pretty similar night to the first except we managed to stick together and Pete didn't have to play spiderman.
The next morning we were woken at about half 10 to shouts of "housekeeping". It was Matt and Tess and they were wondering what we were doing and if we fancied lunch. We eventually joined them and in the afternoon went on our boat trip around Phi Phi that we had booked the day before. We started off with snorkelling with black tip reef sharks. This was really shallow and visibility wasn't great so not the best for snorkelling but managed to see two sharks. After this we headed to cliff jumping. Pete and I climbed up and jumped from 8 meters into the sea and then Pete decided to go again from 10 meters but I couldn't be bothered. We saw some guys jumping from 18 meters but I guess I'm just not that crazy. Was a massive rush though. Next we headed towards Maya Bay which was cool because I recognised it from the film but it was really busy and too shallow to really snorkel. On the way back we stopped off for one more snorkel to try and see some turtles but no luck. A few others did see some swordfish though.
Last night we chilled for the evening because we were travelling quite far today but hopefully we should be arriving in KL soon and I will be able to give you an update from there.
Hope everyones all good
