Road Trip.......
So we had just over 48 hours to get from Koh Tao in Thailand to Tokyo in Japan. Sounds a nice, simple journey but it wasn't.
We started off with a taxi from our hostel to the port to get on a high speed boat from Koh Tao to Koh Phangan followed by another boat to the Thai mainland. So two boats down and then it was an hour bus journey to Surat Thani, the nearest town to the port. Here we had about an hour wait until our next bus to Hat Yai. This was a mini bus with me, Pete and about 10 locals, some who were picked up along the way from the streets. Once we arrived in Hat Yai, Thailands biggest city in the south, we had been travelling for about 13 hours and it was about 11pm in the evening. We found a hotel and a restaurant run by some British guys. We asked them why nobody travelled to Hat Yai and what there was to do there. If you are in Thailand and want cheap women and cheap t-shirts apparently Hat Yai is the place to be. I wonder if you can get a package - maybe 2 t-shirts and a woman for 500 baht (£10). So a night in a hostel followed by a walk around in the morning to find an internet cafe, which was never found, and we were done with Hat Yai. My advice, don't go to Hat Yai unless essential and spend a little time there as possible.
So next morning, we set off in a taxi to the airport to catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur. When we got there we decided to get a taxi to the accommodation we had seen online, Reggae Guest House 1. Really nice and definitely would recommend. We decided to take it easy. Went to the doctors to get Pete some medication for his ear infection, followed by a Nando's. After Nando's we went for a walk around China town where we nearly crashed into a rat on the way home. We got back, chilled and crashed out. Bit of a lie in this morning before getting a train and then bus to the airport to catch out flight to Japan. According all goes to plan we should be there tonight and meeting my brother Ben who is going to be our tour guide over the next few days.
So yeah Koh Tao to Tokyo a pretty easy journey. To sum up it was taxi-boat-boat-bus-minibus-taxi-flight-taxi-train-bus-flight. Done
